Considering that we define self-leadership as how we lead and develop ourselves both reflectively and introspectively – from how we are perceived and how we are received as leaders. As detailed in Raj Sisodia’s talk at Georgetown, leaders must be both self-aware and defined as leaders consciously to extend their own ability beyond just profit. As Sisodia noted several times during his talk, conscious capitalism goes extends to a higher purpose, stakeholder integration, conscious leadership, and a caring culture. He notes that a company that focuses solely on profit will eventually experience negative consequences in some regard – the corollary, as he points out is that ‘firms of endearment’, those firms that practice conscious capitalism, far outperform other companies.In terms of the four dimensions of emotional intelligence, I see self-awareness as my ability to interpret how the work force perceives me – am I approachable, do I engage with them in the proper amount (not too much, not too little), do they see me as a teammate rather than a leader? In regards to self-management, I offer that choosing the right time and place to place emotions in play is paramount to choosing to never let emotions show. We all work in professional environments and emotional baggage along with outburst creates an environment that places a leader at risk with higher level management as well as perceptions from their own work force. Social awareness gets to our ability to manage our emotions beyond a pure leadership attribute. This dimension is closely related to self-awareness in that we are interested in how we are perceived, beyond leadership, by our work force. The social skills dimension considers how we interact with others – our body language, the words we choose when speaking with those around us, eye contact, and our overall communication skills. Being aware of each of the four dimensions creates and bonds us to a more emotionally intelligent leader.Read the above text and respond here: The employment setting and/or work itself can affect job satisfaction, organizational commitment, conscious leadership and job involvement. My experience is the workplace setting or work itself can affect all aspects of a workplace. And that affect can either be positive or negative. I’ve been a part of organizations with high-performing teams that have job satisfaction, strong commitment, leadership and involvement and they are relocated to cubicles or a job trailer and all aspects of their performance and quality of work life have been negatively impacted. The overwhelming sentiment is lessening the comforts of a workplace setting is a form of disrespect and a demonstrates the teams’ importance to the organization. Similarly, I’ve seen the same type of group who are all around a high functioning team suffer greatly when they are reassigned to a different group/department/program/project that they feel is less rewarding or interesting. Their motivation suffers which leads to low morale, absenteeism and rampant turnover. The bottom line is productivity and performance is impacted by all aspects within an organization. The trick is finding that balance between employee wants and what the organization can afford/provide. And the second part of that is trying to convey that balance to staff.
