As part of the Professional Development unit, you will create a resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn profile. There are many resources available to help you develop these documents, including templates, checklists, and the video lecture and slides for this unit.
You will develop or revise your resume. For the resume, limit yourself to two pages of relevant information. You need to include contact information, work experience, education, and other appropriate skill-based data.
For the cover letter, you will search for a position you are interested in and draft a letter as if you were applying. In your job search, focus on career positions that you want after graduation. You may use an internship position but not a ‘college job’ (i.e., a job you would only do part-time as a student).
This assignment is designed to help develop a strong cover letter template for your career objectives, so the position must be related to professional goals. The letter should be addressed to a specific person within the organization and provide an expansion of your resume. Complement the skills and experiences you have with concrete examples that show the reader your personality and skillset.
Expectations
Strong professional documents will demonstrate critical thought, appropriate application per your field/career, and accomplishment-focused language. To earn a high score on this project, you must express your skills and experiences clearly with strong verbs in the appropriate tense, demonstrate effective design skills including (but not limited to) headings, fonts, colors, alignment, and text-size, and demonstrate a good-faith effort to understand yourself and your career goals. You must show that you are qualified, competent, skilled, and prepared for life after graduating from Colorado State University.
Resume
Contact information should be professional, complete, and clearly presented.
Objective statement/summary (if used) should be succinct and tie your skills to the job and employer benefit (if you choose to include one – not required).
Contain an education section with degree type, name and location of the university, anticipated graduation date, and relevant coursework.
Contain a work experience section where each position has the title, company, dates, location, functional task bullet points, and results and accomplishments bullet points.
If you are running low on content to include, consider a ‘Relevant Coursework’ section and/or an Accomplishments, Awards, or Honors section. *We expect you to fill at least one page.
NOTE: Emphasis should be on your college experiences, and only relevant high school leadership, volunteer, or work experience.
Cover Letter
The letter should be formatted professionally (consult your textbook and the template posted on Canvas). DO NOT use a pre-made template.
Include professional, complete, and clearly stated contact information for you and the company to which you are applying.
Try to use the name of a real recipient; do research about the company to which you are applying.
If there is no name listed on the posting – consider “To Whom It May Concern,” “Greetings:” or “To the Hiring Committee for [Position].”
Identify the specific job (i.e., title) in the first or second paragraph and how you learned of the position.
Include details about your interest in the specific company (i.e., the mission, the size, the location, or something from their social media).
Include details about your interest in the specific position you’re applying for (i.e., a project you want to contribute or skill you want to gain, why it aligns with your exploration/goals).
Include pertinent information that isn’t fully expressed/explained in the resume, relating your past to what you want to accomplish or learn in this position.
Include an expression of thanks in the last paragraph.
Include a call to action or statement that creates expectation of next steps in the last paragraph (be assertive and let the prospective employer know when/how you will be following up).

-Things to consider:
– I am an Economics student.
– I have uploaded my Resume, but it is not fully compeleted. So, please go through it, and compelete and adjust it. For the incompeleted parts, you can add anything on there but please be reasonable and performe like you are a student not a professional.
– For the cover letter, please write about something from the United States(better if in Colorado) and be reasonable.
– Please follow everything, and step by step. Also look at the rubric and make sure everything is included.
