Which of these paradigms best describes your own world view, and why do you choose that one over the other two? Identify the goal, ontology, epistemology, researcher role, and communication role of your paradigm, and explain how and why you accept and identify with this world view over the other two. Then, name (but do not describe) the paradigm with which you identify the least. (15 points possible)
(Note: I do NOT want you to choose two or all three paradigms and then explain that your world view is a combination of those. Choose ONE paradigm that you identify with the most and answer the questions with respect to that one. Then, name the ONE paradigm that you least identify with.)

2. Juliet is a relationship expert who says that women are more talkative than men. Your intuition tells you that’s true, and when you reflect on your own experience, you can certainly think of many very talkative women and many quiet, un-talkative men. However, a group of university researchers does a study showing that, on average, men are just as talkative as women. When a study produces a result that contradicts what is known by authority, intuition, and experience—as it has in this case—what should you conclude? Which form(s) of knowledge are the most trustworthy, and why? (10 points possible)

When taking a deductive approach to research, we derive hypotheses from theory by 1) considering the way a theory explains a behavior, and then 2) asking ourselves “if this explanation is true, what else is probably true?” For instance, consider David Buller and Judee Burgoon’s interpersonal deception theory. Their theory explains (among other things) that we work harder to manage our behavior when we are lying than when we are telling the truth, in order to avoid having our lie be discovered. Ask yourself “if this is true, then what else is likely to be true?” For this question, I want you to articulate a hypothesis that is logically derived from this theory by finishing this sentence: “Compared to truth-tellers, liars are more likely to…” Then, explain clearly why you see your hypothesis as being logically derived from Buller and Burgoon’s theory. (12 points possible)
(Note: You will not find interpersonal deception theory in the textbook or the PowerPoints, so base your answer off of only what I have described in this question.)
